Την πρώτη δημόσια αντίδρασή της μετά την επιβεβαίωση από τον Λευκό Οίκο ότι της ζητήθηκε να παραιτηθεί από τη θέση της πρέσβειρας των ΗΠΑ στην Ελλάδα έκανε η Κίμπερλι Γκίλφοϊλ, δηλώνοντας υπερήφανη για το έργο της και απορρίπτοντας κατηγορηματικά τις καταγγελίες σε βάρος της.
Σε εκτενή δήλωσή της, η Αμερικανίδα διπλωμάτης υπερασπίζεται τη θητεία της στην Αθήνα, εστιάζοντας στις ενεργειακές συμφωνίες και στην ενίσχυση της στρατηγικής συνεργασίας Ελλάδας – ΗΠΑ.
Παράλληλα, υπογραμμίζει την αφοσίωσή της στον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο, Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, αφήνοντας να εννοηθεί ότι η διπλωματική παρουσία της στην Ελλάδα πλησιάζει στο τέλος της.
Η τοποθέτησή της έρχεται μετά την ανακοίνωση του Λευκού Οίκου ότι η αμερικανική κυβέρνηση ζήτησε την παραίτησή της. Η εκπρόσωπος Τύπου, Κέιτι Ζακαράια, χαρακτήρισε την Γκίλφοϊλ «πολύτιμο μέλος» της ομάδας του προέδρου.

«Το να υπηρετήσω ως πρέσβης των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών στην Ελλάδα υπήρξε η μεγαλύτερη τιμή της ζωής μου», αναφέρει στη δήλωσή της, εκφράζοντας την ευγνωμοσύνη της προς τον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ και τον υπουργό Εξωτερικών, Μάρκο Ρούμπιο.
Η Γκίλφοϊλ υπεραμύνεται των πεπραγμένων της, δίνοντας έμφαση στις πρωτοβουλίες που, όπως σημειώνει, συνέβαλαν στην ενίσχυση των σχέσεων μεταξύ των δύο χωρών.

During my tenure, we have helped secure historic agreements to expand American liquefied natural gas exports to Europe, advanced the Vertical Corridor to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian energy, strengthened our defense and security partnership with a critical NATO ally, and expanded opportunities for American businesses and investment throughout the region.
I am especially proud of the role our Embassy has played in strengthening American energy dominance, advancing economic cooperation, and ensuring that the United States remains the indispensable leader in Southeast Europe.
These accomplishments are a testament to President Trump’s bold leadership, Secretary Rubio’s commitment to American diplomacy, and the extraordinary men and women who serve our country every day.
I also want to address the recent allegations against me. These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity. I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.

«Δεν θα επιτρέψω σε ψευδείς κατηγορίες να καθορίσουν την εικόνα μου»
Αναφερόμενη στις καταγγελίες που προηγήθηκαν του αιτήματος παραίτησης, η Αμερικανίδα πρέσβειρα τις χαρακτηρίζει ψευδείς και δηλώνει αποφασισμένη να υπερασπιστεί το όνομά της.
«Έχω αφιερώσει την επαγγελματική μου ζωή στον αγώνα για τη δικαιοσύνη, στην υπεράσπιση του σωστού και των αξιών που κάνουν την Αμερική ξεχωριστή. Δεν θα επιτρέψω σε ψευδείς κατηγορίες να καθορίσουν την εικόνα των δεκαετιών της δημόσιας προσφοράς μου», τονίζει.
Με τη δήλωσή της, η Γκίλφοϊλ επιχειρεί να υπερασπιστεί τη δημόσια εικόνα και την επαγγελματική της πορεία, ενώ παραμένει ανοιχτό το ζήτημα της ολοκλήρωσης της θητείας της στην Αθήνα.
